Guide children to become independent, ethical, and lifelong learners through Montessori principles — providing a Montessori-inspired education that promotes academic excellence.

A Montessori-inspired international school in Sulaymaniyah — where curiosity, character, and global citizenship grow together.
More than a school. A community built for life.
We are Komar International School — a Montessori-inspired learning community dedicated to nurturing confident, independent, and compassionate learners. Guided by the philosophy of Maria Montessori, we provide a carefully prepared environment where children explore, discover, and grow through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.
We foster academic excellence, strong character, and leadership skills — empowering every child to reach their full potential in a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment.

By combining academic excellence with high standards for our students and staff — along with guidance, inspiration, and meaningful experiences — we cultivate confident, independent, and responsible lifelong learners.

Globally recognised standards anchored in international quality assurance and Montessori best practice.

Komar International School (KIS) is accredited by the Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges and Universities (ASIC) — a globally recognised quality assurance body. Accreditation confirms that the school meets internationally accepted standards across educational provision, governance, and administration, demonstrating a commitment to a high-quality, continuously improving learning environment.

KIS is a member of the American Montessori Society (AMS) — a leading global organisation established in 1960, dedicated to advancing Montessori education through teacher training, research, and advocacy. AMS membership reflects our commitment to delivering an authentic Montessori experience that stays true to the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori while meeting the highest modern educational standards.

KIS follows the Cambridge International Curriculum, complemented by Montessori-inspired teaching methods. This combination provides a balanced approach that supports both academic excellence and the development of independent, confident learners, while also meeting the requirements of the Kurdish National Curriculum.
KIS provides education for students aged 6 to 13, covering Grades 1 through 6. We also recognise the importance of early childhood education and support a learning pathway that begins from nursery level (ages 2–5) as a foundation for future academic success. We also go beyond Grade 6 in the upcoming years.
The primary language of instruction at KIS is English, in line with the Cambridge curriculum. Students also study Kurdish and Arabic as part of the national curriculum, supporting both international communication skills and local cultural understanding.
